We Believe…
At Advent Lutheran Church, we believe: (from Advent’s brochure, 1997)
· God is present in our worship, and in our daily lives. God loves every one of us.
· We have new life because of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
· We are a forgiven people. We always have a second chance. God’s love changes us.
· The Bible is the life-giving word of God. God’s word gives us a glimpse into God’s plan of love for us and all creation.
· We serve those in need. Faith is not just a private matter. It is also a public act.
So, We Shall…
As God's people, we are called to provide: (from Mission and Ministry Board, 1999)
§ A place of hospitality, where all people are welcome.
§ A place for all people to grow in faith through worship and learning opportunities.
§ A place of healing for those in need.
§ A helping hand to those less fortunate on a local and global level.
§ A gathering place for people to connect with one another through fellowship and service projects.
§ A place to meet the needs of our community.
An Explanation of our Logo
At the top of the logo is the cross.
This is our central identity. It points to Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. It is because of God’s act of love on the cross that we have new life—both in the hereafter, and in the here and now.
Beneath the cross is the roof. The roofline should look familiar. Its pitch and slope is the same of our building. There are no walls here. It is more of tent than a cathedral. No walls allow the wind of the Spirit to blow in and through us.
Beneath the roof are joy-filled people, kicking up their heels. It looks like they have just heard some great news. They have. The have heard the Good News of the Gospel. They are loved. They are forgiven. They are delighted to share this good news with others.
Note: Some people are under the tent, and some are not. Not yet, anyway. We believe that Christ’s love reaches beyond the church. It sends out those who gather under tent. It invites those who are outside to become part of the dance.
Weaving through the people is a ribbon, the Holy Spirit. It connects the cross, the Church and the people. Looking like waves, it reminds us of our baptism. It extends out further and further to touch even more lives.
It is a picture of our vision: gathering under the cross, transformed by God’s love, dancing under the tent of God’s love and grace, and reaching out to those not under the tent of God’s love.
